Winners of the Scottish Social Enterprise Awards 2014
Lochbroom Woodfuels is delighted to be awarded winner of 2014's One to Watch in the Scottish Social Enterprise Awards, and High Commended in the same category in the UK Social Enterprise Awards. Our vision is to develop a sustainable, reliable woodfuel supply chain in Wester Ross, thereby creating work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for local young people. Owned by the community, all profits are reinvested in the business or other community projects.
Following due diligence checks and an audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers, entries to the Scottish Social Enterprise Awards were assessed by a panel of judges including Linda Hanna, Director of Strategy at Scottish Enterprise, Eric Munro of the RBS Community Banking Team and Craig Sanderson, Chief Executive of the Link Group. The judges' citation said that the launch of Lochbroom Woodfuels Ltd by the Ullapool Community Trust is "a great example of diversification into new products and services...Lochbroom Woodfuels Ltd is a social enterprise with a capacity for growth and is genuinely One to Watch." An awards ceremony was held at the Scottish Parliament on the 4th November. Social entrepreneurs had the opportunity to meet MSPs and other key partners.
Winners of the Scottish Awards joined the shortlist in the UK Social Enterprise Awards. Lochbroom Woodfuels beat off competition from Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland and was awarded Highly Commended in the One to Watch category at an awards ceremony in London on the 26th November.
